In advance of Hurricane Irene, officials closed Tompkins Square Park Saturday afternoon... The Park remained closed yesterday ... and we saw some of the damaged trees...
Around noon, the Park reopened... and we got a better look at the losses. What we didn't see before: That tree that sort of leaned in Crusty Meadow has fallen...
...and it nearly took out the Park's Holiday Tree...
Melanie notes at East Village Corner that five trees were lost during the storm.
That was bullshit that the city closed Tompkins on Sat. It was done because they didn't want to deal with the miscreants there on Sat. I didn't make to the East River to see if that park had been sealed off. This was a security exercise. Will they seal off the park before every storm now? The slaves don't seem to mind, they were happy to watch the rats running around.
ReplyDeletenygrump - really?! this is your take on this. big conspiracy here; closing a park that later proved to be deadly dangerous with massive falling trees. the man really kept us down here again huh?!

slave who watched the rats yesterday
HEY ANONYMOUS, YES, REALLY. Maybe you can explain why the park was closed at 9 am on Saturday with your BIG BRAIN. The rain and wind didn't even get going until after dark.
ReplyDeleteWhat a bunch of sissies this country has turned into. Witht your logic of obediance, the entire City should be shuttered because someone might get hurt.
I think you like obeying the State! Well, I can tell you, there are still a few of us who like to chew our food ourselves.
Bloomberg shut down the trains to prevent looting. It was a security exercise.
@nycgrump - they probably closed the park at 9am so that the park workers could get home before the MTA shut down the subways at noon. I might also add that Bloomberg didn't shut down the trains Cuomo and the MTA shut down the trains. MTA isn't a city run agency and the mayor has no authority over that it.
