A large NYPD presence on East 12th Street

A reader report from late this afternoon on 12th Street between Avenue A and B... a reader heard someone yell "Stop him!"

"I saw people from the street and cops running down 12th Street. Got outside and saw them wrestling with this kid. They finally got him under control and took him back down 12th Street toward B. Tons of people outside, tons of cops. Don’t know what he did ..."

Anyone have more details?

  1. Proud of my peeps on 12th Street for chasing this guy. Don't mess with 12th Street because we'll mess right back!

  2. Sounded like he'd stolen a cell phone. He was shouting "they got me off a description of someone else", but he definitely tossed something small and black while he was being chased.

Cops were not exactly gentle with him.

  3. I saw the whole thing, and the cops weren't rough. I mean, he was fighting them the whole way, even when they were putting him in the car, but they weren't using excessive force. He seemed stunned that people went after him. The lady cop was the fastest, by the way. Go lady cop!

  4. We noticed a few punks out looking to prey on people yesterday. They were taking advantage of their not being so many people out.

  5. Reminds me of the show "the cape",
