Will rent hike KO Quantum Leap on First Avenue?

Per EV Grieve reader dwg:

Found out from the staff at Quantum Leap on First Avenue that due to a large rent increase they could be closed as soon as this Sunday. I think this is a great veggie restaurant for the neighborhood and would hate to see it go.

Indeed. No word on the status of the original Thompson Street location.

  1. I was there on Sunday and heard the same thing. Devastated. From what we overheard the West Village location will remain open.

  2. Same thing is happening to Curly's on 14th - there's a "for rent" sign in the window. Talked to David, the owner, last week and he said that the landlords were playing hardball and looking for a big rent increase.

What happens when everything that makes the area worth living in has been priced out by these assholes? Do we just turn over the entire EV to NYU for their campus?

    This sucks.

  3. NYU doesn't even register their buses in NY state. What kind of bs is that? We are subsidizing them and for what?

This is the Bloomberg dream - no actual residents. Just transient students, transient artists, transient tourists, transient business people. They drop their money and leave. Easy to govern.

Time to name the individuals doing this and their addresses. Why do they get to be anonymous? we have no expectation of privacy anymore, remember.

  4. Quantum Leap shuttered their other other location out in the boonies of Queens a few years back. Hated to see them go once.

  5. I was a devoted patron to the Fresh Meadows location before it closed down. The servers were always friendly. I wonder where they are now...

I prefer the QL in the West Village, but it's just sad to see all these vegetarian places (Counter, and now Curly's) closing down. I got to get down there before the doors shut!

Lucky you. How about losing a love one? The Lower East Side will sur-
vive. Hopefully all of you will leave.

  9. over the past couple years the food there has gone from great to ok to "holy fuck, you want me to pay for this?!"

They also got a B on the health inspection, do some research and find out just how hard it is to get anything below an A. (seeing that was the last straw for me and I have not been back since)

They clearly stopped caring about the quality of the food and while it is sad to see them go away, I wonder how much of it is because the rent increase and how much is because people got tired of bad overpriced food
