RIP Joe

Our friends at East Village Eats have confirmed what we heard from several regulars... Joe, the owner of Joe's Bar on East Sixth Street, has died. One regular told us that Joe passed away on Thanksgiving...

No word just yet on what will happen to the bar. It remains closed for the time being. Our best to his wife Dot and the Joe's family...

  2. Wow, sad news. I'm sorry I never got to meet Joe, but I sure enjoyed his fine bar and wonderful jukebox. R.I.P.

  3. I spent a good ten years of my life (the entire decade of the 90's. ) turning my income into Joe's income. It was a beautiful scene, with a lot of nightly regulars who became a big extended family. It was so special that after we all moved on I was unable to go there anymore because I'd be overwhelmed by nostalgia. And, before the smoking ban, it was probably the smokiest place on earth. Thank you Joe.

  4. Even tho the last couple of times I visited I spent more time squashing cockroaches with beer mats than drinking, maybe that made me love the place even more. Condlances and good health to the Joe family.
