Breaking: Subway awning arrives at 108 First Ave.

This just in from EV Grieve reader Joe. Here at 108 First Ave., home of the former Intervideo Electronics between Sixth Street and Seventh Street.

In this instance, it's OK to weep in public.

  1. Sheesh! This is getting to be like a bad Twilight Zone. I keep waiting to see Rod Serling standing there, but since you can't smoke in NYC anymore he'll be holding one of those 500 ounce Slurpee sugar bombs and a godawful Subway sandwich. Actually, it's more like a Night Gallery. Okay, I'm done.

  3. What seemed like slow erosion not too long ago is starting to feel like demolition lately. The EV was a holdout, it remained wild in a sense, for a long time but I guess the eventual settlement of it by corporate America, was inevitable.

  4. So on this little block its gonna be 31 flavors/dunkin donuts, McDonald's, Subway? I shudder to think what is coming to the old Polonia space. Poor Coal Yard, it can't feel too good being surrounded like this.

There's another Subway right up the Ave not even 7 blocks away. NYC should start doing what they do in San Fransisco (requires all chain stores to get special approval before entering its neighborhoods).

  9. Jeremiah are you clairvoyant? I was just wondering where I could get a pair of saggy black jeans with 9,637 straps hanging from them! Oh and a Jack Skellington beanie.

  10. With all the jokes about Claire's Accessories on this thread, I hate to point out that the storefront just north of Subway is a Ricky's. This poor block has been murdered.
