Shawn Chittle and Dave on 7th pass along word that the FDNY has responded to a report of smoke at BAD Burger on Avenue A near 11th Street... the FDNY is on the scene now...
Dave on 7th, who took these shots, reports: "No sign of fire. But BAD Burger employee reports that the kitchen and dining room filled up with smoke. Probably from the furnace. Nothing actually appears to be happening, which is a good thing."
Updated 1/17:
Owner Keith Masco provides an update in the comments.
At the same time, there were a bunch of emergency vehicles that rushed to 4th St near B. At one point they had firetrucks backing up onto A from E 4TH and headed toward Bad Burger once they got that other call.
ReplyDeleteFascism is very flammable, I’ve heard. Time to move to a "fascist free" hood. Viva il Duce!
ReplyDeleteYes,there actually was a fire. Apparently our HVAC unit spontaneously combusted. We noticed it almost immediately,And the manager on duty sprang into action. She grabbed a ladder and a claw hammer ,had the vent off in a matter of seconds and used our fire extinguisher to subdue the blaze while we were waiting for the fire company to show up. Which by the way took them like 2minutes. The firemen ripped out some of the ceiling above it to be safe and checked the basement. They shut down the gas line going to it,as well as the electricity. We were able to stay open immediately following the blaze, and may only close down for a day or so in the dining area.We will remain openfor take out and delivery throughout.
ReplyDeleteAnd apparently free enterprise and democracy are alive and well in the E.V.,as our business has practically doubled since that fascism crack at cb3.
Your business has doubled in 7 days? How poorly were you doing before? And aren't you the one who made the "facism crack"?
ReplyDeleteThis guy needs to stop talking. Does he ever NOT sound like a jerk?!
ReplyDeleteSo it seems the only thing you care about is the impact this had on your business and not about the tenants in the building as we had firemen on the roof, smoke detectors going off and then had to listen to the roof alarm for several hours. Thanks
ReplyDeleteJust another day making burnt hamburgers
ReplyDeleteExcuse me, I believe Keith's comment about doubled business was in response to the truth telling about CB3 as fascists! The defamation of the character of someone, based solely on the fact that they desire to offer a beer with a burger or a mimosa with their brunch is preposterously rude and misguided. The East Village is a place where cajoling and art and music come together. Restaurants and cafes are a part of the environment that we delight in. As a local musician, I resent the community boards stipulation that no musicians or performers ever be allowed to perform live in any context at an establishment in order to grant their condescending approval. So much for the posterity of the neighborhood!
