Report: Kips Bay 15 to get bigger?

Seeing a movie at one of the chain theaters in the neighborhood (oh, Regal Union Square!) is a soul-sucking experience that makes me question whether there is any good left in the world kinda sucks save for that 11:15 a.m. weekday showing (and even then...).

Which is why we don't see many mainstream movies.

But, if the mood strikes, we will, on occasion, traipse up to the AMC Loews Kips Bay 15 on this suburban stretch of Second Avenue ... less painful and less crowded usually...

We're not alone in this pilgrimage. Which is why you might be interested in this item over at pcvstBee ... word there is that the theater will be expanding into the former Borders space next door... Not sure if this will make it better or worse. (More theaters, more crowds?)

    That's the hardest theater in the city to sneak into an extra movie. You have to hope your 2nd is on the same floor or else you're screwed.

    I stopped going to theaters when the price topped $10. I'm kind of surprised movie theaters are doing well enough to expand. I guess that's a good thing (?).

    Kips Bay and Battery Park are the best (least annoying) places to see mainstream movies.

    This seems a bit off. I live around the corner and the theater is quite empty much of the time, save for some big evenings. It's true many of us added our names to a flyer asking for a Whole Foods to come in (and I sent that to Whole Foods, as I'd love to be able to nix coming to the Houston store). And we miss Borders. Def no construction yet. We'll see.

    best kept secret. i use all my AMC gift cards every winter. ever since the...let's say THIRD? rat ran past the screen at Union Square, i depend on 19th /b'way or Kips Bay to go see silly movies at.
    They are Clean, spacious and have good sound.

    I like the Kips Bay theatre, but if you're really concerned about crowds hit the multiplex in Battery Park City. Place is always deserted. Not sure how they stay in business.

    Loews movies are $6 before noon, every day.
