Another makeshift shelter arrives along the Liz Christy Garden

As we reported on March 7, city officials dismantled and discarded the makeshift shelter that a homeless man had been living in the past three months on the Bowery at East Houston...

One thing probably doesn't have to do with the other... but the timing made a few readers curious... DBGB set up its sidewalk cafe four days after workers removed the shelter, which sat about 30 feet from the southern edge of the cafe...

In any event, we noticed that the man, who a Liz Christy volunteer said is from Cuba, has set up a much smaller space not too far away from where he was... so far, nothing more than a chair and a few bags...

  1. Why does DBGB hate the homeless so much?

i also cannot believe that daniel boulud hates the homeless so much. he should be feeding them with the leftovers from the restaurant if he had any humanity!

  3. What an irony - directly across the street from Whole Foods. And, by the way, WF throws out tons of perfectly good food every few days in a dumpster out back. Something is SO wrong with this picture.

  4. They are afraid of being "undomiciled" themselves. I bet they could not survive with as much dignity in the street. Haters go home.

  5. Nothing sours the taste of a $19 burger like the sight of a "homeless"! "Why yes, of course my heart goes out to them, but I am trying to eat!"

(meanwhile on the DBGB site, for some reason The Clash's Magnificent Seven plays...hmmm)

  6. DBGB takes up way too much of the sidewalk. I'm sure this can't be legal to confine walkers to one lane of traffic. So does Pulinos. Greedy for more than just money.

  7. Newsflash, this is a pricey neighborhood now. People who pay these kind of rents generally aren't pleased to see makeshift shelters right in their midst.

  8. It makes me so happy knowing that the yuppies who bought into this building for millions of dollars have to smell the foul pork stench coming from DBGBDSGCS and suffer through the violent horn honking from the cities loudest intersection. Suck it!

  9. Does anyone know if DGBGCGSBGDS has their outdoor seating in place today?
