This information is via Marcus Cohn's website. He wrote that on Saturday night around midnight, a group of 30 or so NYPD and other various officials paid a visit to the Sunburnt Cow on Avenue C near East Ninth Street. Per Marcus:
They were there for about 30 minutes and were examining everything from the menus, to the liquor license, to actual bottles of alcohol. They did not ask patrons to leave, yet most left on their own volition as their drinks ran empty. The bartenders were also made to pour out all the mixers.
Please tell me the leader of the inspection was the same cop in charge at an inspection of Rockwood that I witnessed a couple years ago. He's an older black man, very well dressed, in a trench coat and wide brimmed fedora-style hat. Cell phone ear piece. The guy was like Kojak, Shaft, and Jack Webb all rolled into one. He was awesome.
ReplyDeleteClose this frathole down! The coow is nothing but an udder nusiance for the neighborhood!! ;-)
ReplyDeletewhat's the skinny on this is it the watered down hooch or overpriced and small shots
ReplyDeleteIt sucks that the cops are picking on the Cow. There are way worse joints in that neighbourhood.
ReplyDeleteAussies like to drink and get roudy. Big deal.
Is NYPD racist against Australians now?
Close them all down! Every bar in EV!

ReplyDeleteThese types of inspections are not soley an NYPD operation. They are multi agency, usually in response to complaints. The agencies involved are NYPD, NYFD, Buildings Dept, Health Dep't and SLA. Each agency is responsible for violations or licenses specific to their department or agency.
There's a few things that bring in the super squad, but getting listed as a nuisance bar is one of them. I heard two bars recently went through this (Niagara and Phoenix) because a large number of people had been pickpocketed at the bar. There was a group of guys that were walking in grabbing things out of everyone's coats while they were in the corner.
