The Lakeside Lounge closes after tonight

As you probably know, the Lakeside Lounge closes up after tonight on Avenue B near East 10th Street. (A few people on Twitter seemed surprised by this news this past weekend.) The first report of the closure came a few weeks ago via a post at New York Music Daily.

And thanks to WNYC for including a "blow-torch" quote from me in a post on the Lakeside closing. (Quote: "I don't want an $18 cocktail made with a blow-torch.")

  1. And another great one bites the dust. I'm glad I was able to spend time in there. Nice quote, too!

  2. Major loss for this area. Are there any other similar music performance venues in Alphabet City nowadays? I can't think of one. To me it seems like nobody around here gives a shit about music anymore.

  3. Will this be a "soft close" like Banjo Jim's?

  4. I can't say I loved the place, but I certainly spent a fair amount of time in there when I used to live on 9th St. I wonder what will happen to the attractive bartender who was very friendly to me?

  5. I can say I loved the place and will miss it a lot. Always the good ones. It was of course packed last night for the last night. Taps ran dry around 9-9:30 and it was only bottles from there. Farewell, Lakeside. Another one bites the dust.

Ha, nice quote, EVG! Here come the artisanal ice cubes...
