Report: Cake Shop facing eviction on Ludlow Street

[Image via the Cake Shop website]

Word is spreading that Cake Shop — the cafe/record store/bar/music venue — is facing an imminent eviction on Ludlow Street... Brooklyn Vegan had the scoop yesterday... (We read about it at BoweryBoogie.)

Here's a piece of an email making the rounds via the Cake Shop's Andy Bodes:

Calling all millionaires: cake shop needs a month-long returnable bridge loan, due to possibly bogus fines from last year, at their deadline this Monday, or we face eviction. the amount we’re looking for is 10k, to pay off these fines once and for all. we’d need it in the next 72 hours. & reminder this is a short term loan. full explanation provided, with intere$t and perks, if this appeals to you, and you’d like to help us out & continue & grow. thanks. xo.

  1. What kind of interest? And how short term?

  2. Fines from last year??
AND you have a 3 day dead line??
You are thinking about paying this NOW??

I am so sick of these businesses asking for money to keep their businesses going. PAY YOUR FINES! PAY YOUR RENT!!

If you cannot pay your rent then get a smaller cheaper space.

    STOP BEGGING!!!!

  6. hey, haters - try running a small business and being constantly shaken down for outrageous, BOGUS fees and fines by bloomberg's henchman. and THEN talk smack to the good people at cakeshop. until then you are just spewing bile and only adding to the rapid decline of all cultural progression in NYC.
Cakeshop is a brilliant and artistically important venue, ESPECIALLY in the wasteland that the LES has become.
you should be ashamed of yourselves for speaking against them in a public forum like this.
i can only imagine how miserable your lives must be.

  7. It is Cakeshop that should be ashamed for posting such a vague plea for money…
Possible bogus fine? For what? Apparently Cakeshop does not know either. Apparently Glammma knows it's Bloombergs' Henchmen. It could be ANYTHING. If I were a millionaire and wanted to invest in someone I want to know what I am getting into. Putting a vague last ditch effort plea for help on the WEB is well, weird. If a business can’t PLAN why would you want to invest in it??? Oh and I have a bridge I want to sell you....
