[Updated] Breaking: Hostage situation on East 12th Street

Sources say that it's at 514 E. 12th St. ... also from the Gothamist news map...


NYPD on scene say that four shots were fired.

Updated: 11:01 a.m. People on the scene say that it's over... NYPD has left... We'll see if we can any details on what happened.

  1. Any update on this situation? Anyone know what happened? I live on 12th Street, and I am out of town. I hope no one was hurt.

  2. Nobody hurt. The guy they took away wasn't in handcuffs and they put him in an ambulance, not a police car. I think it was a rumour that there were shots fired. It went from none to four in about half an hour, but the police were telling people (ie me) there were shots fired.

  3. I passed by the scene, and I was amazed at the number of police vehicles and their size. Keeping all that equipment on hand, with the people to run it, must cost MILLIONS! Obviously overkill in this situation. I'm wondering what situation do the authorities contemplate? What disaster awaits?
