Is this the warm, fuzzy feeling that you were expecting at 313 Bowery?

We've been wondering what would go into the retail space at 313 Bowery since the Riff pop-up shop closed in May... Now we know, thanks to a scoop over at the Observer: Patagonia. The outdoor clothing and gear store is moving into the two levels of combined 8,100-square-feet of space that once housed the CBGB Record Canteen and, later, the 313 Gallery.

And the quote of the day goes to the leasing executive who said this to the Observer:

“Patagonia loves historic space. 313 was just the perfect location. In the basement there are still the bathrooms from CBGB’s time that are scrawled with all the writing from club-goers over the years.”

  3. I'm thinking it's the people who moved into Avalon who got snookered. Here they thought they were buying into a faux-cool area where they could at least pretend they were living in a reasonable simulacrum of inner-city NYC, but no, the curtains came off on that fantasy waaaay too quick!

How is a Patagonia going to sustain itself in this location??? They would be better off on Broadway, near Paragon, or someplace where there are complimentary businesses. But next door to Blue & Cram, home of the $400 t-shirt? And the other store selling day-glo skivvies???

And please, businesses moving into the neighborhood need to can the shit about the "historic" spaces. I cringe every time a publicist writes that.

  5. Im not saying Patagonia in this location is a good fit for anyone, but I will say, P is a pretty respectable co in many ways. This location seems really close to their soho location though.

  7. "Pradagonia" as I've heard it called. And no, nygrump, they don't have "quality items at appropriate price on the outdoor tip." They do however have quality items at an insanely high price that they sell to people who have so much money they have no idea what to do with it and think they need a $200 fleece jacket to go on a dayhike.

  8. This is such good news. I will no longer have to walk to Soho to attend Patagonia sales. At 50% off it is a much better deal. I will feel that I have moved into Soho : )

  9. Padagucci. The sales are pretty good, I wear the long underware all winter.

  10. Patagucci? Pradagonia? What the hell is Patagonia? I mean Patagonia is not exactly cheap but from where does the scorn in these comments originate, I have no clue. They make good functional gear especially for cold weather. Maybe some of you Luddites should try their gear--it works, it keeps you warm dry and comfortable. Sure beats piling on layers of your regular clothes to try and stay warm.
