Pinisi Cafe & Bakery has closed on East Fourth Street

On Saturday, EVG reader Blaine passed along the above photo... showing workers clearing out the Pinisi Cafe & Bakery on East Fourth Street near First Avenue. Workers also removed the neon Bakery sign.

The Pinisi outpost on First Avenue closed in late July 2010. We know of a lot of readers who liked their various pastries and desserts.

  3. Never really cared for their stuff, though I'm not big on cupcakes / baked goods. Coffee was sub-par though. As long as it's not another hookah bar I'm looking forward to seeing what can be done with the space.

  5. Really sad to hear this- the owner was so nice and the staff were very welcoming. I also noticed on that same block, the adorable hairdresser who had lots of plants and antques in her storefront is gone (was next to the long gone "Social Tees". Depressing!

  6. what a bummer. you could get a pretty solid slice of red velvet cake there, and the people were always sweet.

  7. I went to the Pinisi bakery for my usual cupcake and saw that they were closed?? What happened? Not even a warning that they were going to be closing like Blondie Road....I bet it was the rising rents in the neighborhood that forced them out...what a shame pretty soon it will be only Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts that can afford the rents...mom and pop owned stores like this one will soon be a thing of the past.

  8. What a shame. I lived for their croissants and pain au chocolats . And the biscuits where the best in the area, particularly the savory ones with bits of sausage, or the cheddar and chives ones. As much as I loved the owner, this place was uneven. Often they were out of my favorite things.. Once, after weeks and weeks of no savory biscuits, I asked about them, and I was told by the nice girl that the owner had probably forgotten about them, with no reassurance about when or if they might return .. It is hard to maintain a loyal clientele, when their is no guarantee that small details and things that make a place special, and keep customers coming back, will remain consistant after a long walk there

  9. Their red velvet cupcakes would taunt me every damn time I left the gym. Every damn time.... At least I will no longer be taunted, but Panisi will be missed. Their cookies were awesome and the staff was super nice.

Speaking of awesome cookies- any word on Something Sweet on 11th St.? I've been wondering for weeks, but have been afraid to ask for fear that I won't like the answer. I was hoping she was just renovating.....

    Pleaseohpleaseohplease say she's just renovating......

  10. @Lista86 - Sorry, but it does not look good for Something Sweet. The owner, Cathy, has severe diabetes, and I understand her elderly husband is quite ill. She's been struggling for a while to keep the store stocked, and a lot of her usual baked goods just stopped being made. Add to that a dick landlord, and I would be surprised to see those gates roll up again.
