Per the article:
Ramone is not sure yet about the basis for the film – whether it will be a full-band biopic celebrating the New York group's rise in the mid-Seventies or told from Johnny's perspective based on his autobiography, 'Commando,' which was published last year. The foundation for the movie will depend on whether the controlling sides of the band's music agree. "If we could get together with my other side, I have a partner, so we'll see," she said.
Monte Melnick will be here hocking his book in 3...2...1...
ReplyDeleteSo their story will be told from the point of view of the band's resident authoritarian personality and rightwing yahoo (anyone remember his big speech, just before he died, about how great George W. Bush and the Iraq War were?)? Bummer. With all due respect to Johnny, who probably kept the band together in his capacity as tyrannical manager type, I'd really rather see the story told from the perspective of bleeding heart romantic Joey or mad poet Dee Dee.

ReplyDeleteActually, I'd rather see it told from the perspective of Tommy, who always seemed like the most level-headed of the bunch, and in some ways is kind of an "outsider" figure while still being close to the center. +1 because he's still alive. Johnny did not strike me as a sentimental individual, Joey too much so, and Dee Dee was perpetually a child. They were both a business and a family, which is not a easy story to capture.
Also, who the hell needs a movie about this with this or that actor? Just watch the documentary that came out a number of years ago. Rock movies always suck because the myth of rock is always larger than the reality, and doesn't usually make such a compelling film. Book yes, movie no.
You mean right wing Yoo-Hoo!
