So there are BIG plans in place for the busy instersection of Lafayette and East Houston. The property owner has designs on demolishing the bar Puck Fair (ever been? I haven't) and the BP station, as DNAinfo first reported on Monday.
Plans for the 7-story, 60,000-square-foot office-retail space were unveiled Monday night during Community Board 2's landmarks committee meeting, as reported by Curbed.
Here we go.

There are still a lot of hurdles to get this through city planning and all that. Read the details at Curbed and DNAinfo.
Anyway, if it all works out, then these new tenants will have the best views of the Calvin Klein billboard — and its rotating batch of ballsacks and boobs — in the city...

Puck Fair is ok..Same owners as Swifts (and Ulysses downtown). Bonus point for 20 oz pints, which is a dying art in NYC. Not a quiet place to get a drink, but they always hire good staff at those bars.

As for Puck Fair, what Spike said, esp. for the 20 oz. pints and good staff. Went there for a 2010 World Cup match when the rest of the usual suspects of bars showing the matches were packed. They also used to 'shuttle' patrons between the three bars back then. Don't know if they still do. I usually just stay at Swift's. I digress...
Walking east on Houston St. one gets a beautiful view of the incredible Puck Building. Put a building there and this view will be gone. That's sad.

What? Puck Fair will be no more? It's a great pub. No attempt to be trendy, and that's a good thing in this overly trend-conscious town. Spacious, lots of regulars, friendly staff (Irish and otherwise), great mix of rock music (even on weekends, a rarity in this top-40 lowest common denominator nightlife era). If it's truly doomed, then do check it out before it's gone....
