9th Street Bakery now selling its glass showcases
Yesterday, we reported the sad news that 9th Street Bakery will have to close in the next three weeks after their landlord ended the lease. And now owners Oleg and Tetyana are selling off pieces of the bakery. An ad appeared on Craigslist yesterday for the bakery's two dry-curved glass showcases.
A bakery has been at this location for 87 years. A juice/smoothie shop is apparently taking over the space.

ugh, this is just gut wrenching.....
ReplyDeleteany business that's been operating in NYC for over 50 yrs should have some rights for godssake! can't we get some rent protection grandfathered in for the old time mom & pops already??
you can't build these kind of places back, it takes decades to create the kind of rich patinas they offer...
they are gutting the very heart and soul of this city and i am just so f*cking sick of it.
glamma, I have to think that a lot of what we enjoyed in Manhattan has moved to Brooklyn and Queens where rents are more sustainable and the neighborhoods are somewhat diverse. Obviously, not Park Slope or other yuppievilles. What I think is so distressing is that nobody was really prepared for the change, but if you think about it, most of these "mom and pop's" were founded in a relatively short era (maybe 75-80 years ago), and are simply being caught up in the changing tides.
ReplyDeleteI guess Bloomturd figures that everyone can hop on a Shitibike, pedal over the Brooklyn Bridge and grab a danish from the other side. Thanks Mike, you scumbag.
Wrong on so many levels; I cannot comprehend how one city needs so many frozen yogurt and juice bars. Are they they new "dozen roses for ten bucks" operations?
ReplyDeleteit is only a matter of time until the outer boroughs are gutted as well, unless we can stop the hemorraging
