I can't stop taking photos of 51 Astor Place

I know. I know! There is some sort of life force within the new building that compels me to take out a camera every time I walk by... (And I've tried taking different routes...)

Oh, and the front entrance and public plaza are shaping up...

Now I want to go inside. (Via 51AP's official renderings)

  1. man, this thing is ugly, intrusive, dominates the area and is reminiscent of how corporations have taken over everything.

but it's better than a public bike rack....er something.

  2. The fact that it has captured you photographically must mean it has something.

Sad that that nice stone bench will soon get scraped and stained by skateboards. :(

  3. People also take pictures of train wrecks and Lindsay Lohan.

  4. Hideous. Cold, unwelcoming, featureless, bland, interchangeable, sterile, absolutely no redeeming features whatsoever. In the immortal words of Raymond Chandler, (this thing) "sticks out like spats at an Iowa picnic".

  6. It's like a giant bottle of lysol! Do those vents spray out some sort of sterilizer as people walk by?
