A few readers sent along photos from Tompkins Square Park this morning... noting a downed limb in the southeast corner of the Park... we didn't see it ourselves, so we're not sure how extensive the damage is...

These incidents would be fewer if an Arborist was retained and they were correctly pruned.

ReplyDeleteMaintenance and preventative care is for weenie socialists. We need low taxes above everything else and we will wait till something breaks before we do anything.

There is a long, low hanging, horizontal branch, on a tree in the South West area of the lawn. Located just a little bit behind the backs of the South end sitting benches. I see people hanging their kids (multiple) from this branch; bouncing them up and down.

The exact same thing happened to the same kind of branch on a tree that was directly across from that one, at the North West end a couple of years ago.

ReplyDeleteActually, I saw a team of arborists in the park last week. Saw two huge trucks ,with equipment in tow, in the center of the park -- couldn't tell from Ave A what they were up to but it appeared to be serious tree-care business.
Furthermore, I actually know one of the principals of said arboreal business. And he lives in the E.V.
So, on many levels, hmmm. - I'm restraining my huge inner urge to say STFU.
well, the rumor going around the park is that not only will there still not be an arborist but the gardner position might be eliminated as well.
ReplyDeleteIf you see something (like kids bouncing on branches) perhaps it's time to say something, like... the branches are weakened and may break.
ReplyDeleteIf for no other reason... to report here how the parents told you to mind your own business?
The gardener and tree specialist positions need to be retained...imho.
