Noted

Seemed inevitable that someone would do something like this... Shawn Chittle spotted this on Avenue A today...

  1. Yah, suh!!!!

Don't get me wrong -- I understand that bikes are better than cars on a boatload of levels. Ride, sally, ride. But I hate the heavy-handed presence of Citibank in this program.

It would have been a much more gracious move of Citi to underwrite the program without the hideous advertising. The bikes could have been citi-bank blue but the corporate logo could have been a much more discrete element of the package.

An effective PR plan would have been one that was MUCH MORE HUMBLE. Doing good works without plastering your name all over such is the truly noble and admirable move. And a move that would make me appreciate your efforts.

    Shut up, Citibank.

  2. Agreed - love the bikes - the corporate sponsor is over the top in their effort to promote a bank.

If someone started distributing blue "sh" stickers in same size as the logo on the bike, I would assist in placing the sticker over the "c"...

  3. Ditto what VH McKenzie said, and double ditto. I just spent a week in Boston, used the equivalent system there. It has the exact same bikes, but it's sponsored by New Balance and the advertising is a very discrete gray with a little bit of green but mostly gray.

On the bright side, I just saw a busstop with an ad for I think Verizon that used exactly the same shade of blue as the Citibikes, so maybe we can get a battle of the screaming eyesore blues.

  4. Citibank had a great idea, then, as usual, the clowns in khakis f*cked it up. And that's whom you see riding these things.

  6. Oi so much kvetching but you still sit your asses on the bike and go [except me of course been waiting for over two weeks and no key yet], in London it sponsored by Barclay Bank and nobody gives a poo...
Somebody had to pony up for it, and no matter what size the logo or which bank people would whaaaa about it.
    .
Imagine the righteous indignation if this bike share was sponsored by Abercrombie & Fitch with giant A&F logo on the bike... peoples bowels would spillith forth.

  7. I don't wear khaki anymore either. Too much of a pain in the ass to launder out the baby oil & glitter...
