[Updated] Report: 18-year-old-man shot outside Jacob Riis Houses

An 18-year-old man suffered life-threatening wounds after being shot in the face last night at the Jacob Riis Houses on Avenue D, the Post reports.

The man was found in a courtyard at 118 Avenue D around 10:45 p.m. Police said they don't have a motive yet for the shooting.

Police also said that "unruly residents began throwing trash and other objects onto the crime scene below," which required them to call in back-up and emergency services.

  1. What the hell... I understand the community's tense relations with cops, but when NYPD shows up to investigate an almost deadly shooting, how do you rationalize people acting like children? And throwing trash out the window; how can people not give any shit about their living environment?

  4. Sad to say that the violence probably won't stop there and it's unfortunate that these people won't let the police do what they need to do.

  5. When cops respond to these scenes in the projects, they know from experience that they have to keep an eye on the rooftops for "citizens" who run up there to throw stuff off at them. Nice people.

  6. “'This is why I keep my kids inside,' said Mavis Pendelton, 38, a mother of three who lives in nearby 108 Avenue D." People from the protest Downtown at One Police Plaza yesterday were making their way up to the scene until they got word it happened at a Housing Project and remembered they didn't give a shit.

Very little screaming and yelling about the daily impact of crimes like these on communities.
