If it's October, then it might be time to throw away last season's Christmas tree, probably

Dave on 7th spotted the above on East Sixth Street today... what was, most likely, or not, a Christmas (holiday) tree. "The branches are in the bags," Dave on 7th hopefully pointed out.

Fine. But where is the verification/authentification/random -tion word to prove that this is actually from today?

[Boosting the circulation]

OK, fine. But where is the stump and the bags with the remains of the Christmas (holiday) tree? We called him out on this, said something like FAIL, though in a jovial way that may have been misinterpreted via email.

"Actually, not a fail. Note the same car across the street."

OK. Hold all tickets. This might take awhile.

Current record for Christmas (holiday) tree discarding: June 29-30.

Please save your anger for a passive aggressive note that you place on Dave on 7th's front door!

Ugh! No! It melted during the Sandy blackout. [Fighting back tears] The puddle refroze, and the whole fridge-freezer remains on eBay. (Starting price is $47,500.)

  8. Not a strand of tinsel or bits of broken ornament or a single pine needle. That's a DQ in my book. Rules official?

I'm not convinced. The cars are much closer together in the second picture.

  11. When is Gruber MacDougal going to weigh in? I believe he is the true authority here, after all....:)

  12. Oh, I have SEVERAL tersely worded extremely passive aggressive notes I am working on.

  13. With global warming the pine needles tend to drop off much faster these days. On the other hand it could just be a very crudely made walking stick. But since there are just 75 more shopping days until Christmas I bet someone else will beat this one for the annual title soon enough.

The bottom line is that until EV starts using carbon dating or some other scientific testing method then we may never really know if these old dried out Xmas trees are from the most recent Christmas or if they are from another Christmas from a long time ago....for all we know some of these may be antique pre-Obama or Bush-era trees, Rudy Guiliani or Abe Beame-era trees, Cold war trees, or even Depression-era trees full of oldness and history. Sadly, we just may never know.

  14. That's no holiday tree...that's Lady Gaga performing a tribute to John and Yoko.

  17. This contest has been a travesty for years, Gruber is on the payroll. Its sad to see something that started as a honest venture, for the kids, mutate into its current form. RIP

  18. Agreed, 9:39AM (just before me). Gruber can suck a thick dripping one for all I care!

  19. @ hey19 & anon 4:19

No one feels worse about this than me, probably. Like everything I do, this was for the children.

Now I have to explain to little Cassandra what a "thick dripping one" is.
