A SantaCon warm-up?

  1. ... does this explain why the ugly sweaters are front and center in all of the remaining thrift shops?

  2. Great, so when these any-excuse-to-get-toasted types are falling down drunk in the street, they won't be able to figure ou if people are staring down at them because they are drunk or because they are wearing an ugly sweater. At least when they puke all over themselves, no one will be able to tell the difference.

In honor of the endless number of people who get dressed up in order to get drunk, and the people who enjoy watching them, our word of the day is:

Drunkaholic: Anyone who is addicted to watching the strange and antisocial behaviors of other people who are drunk.

  3. I like that sweater. What's ugly about it?

  5. I remember when Ugly Sweater Con used to be about the ugly sweaters, and the feeling of community. It wasn't about getting drunk, staggering through the streets, harassing people, and passing out. It was about sharing the company of like minded people and admiring one another's sweaters while getting drunk, staggering through the streets, harassing people, and passing out. Now the old crowd has been driven out by the bridge and tunnel traffic who don't care about our traditions. I am so over Ugly Sweater Con.

  6. This crawl has been going on for years. They used to slam the bar that I was working at with no notice at all. The crawl people finally realized that it might be best to give establishments a heads up that they are coming since no one gets served for 15 minutes when they slam a lone happy hour bartender with no barback or security guy with 80 unanticipated guests all at once. I, for one, am thankful that they are announcing their crawl dates now. I remember the sweater crawl to be folks in their 30's for the most part. Not as young as santacon participants. Probably because they can't pretend there's anything sexy about an ugly sweater crawl (no sexy elves, sexy reindeer, etc....just some ugly sweaters).

  7. The difference is people who are putting on sweaters are people putting on sweaters while people dressing as santas give up their individuality and of course the drugs known as alcohol the "all stupid all the time" facebook generation zeitgeist.

  8. nygrump makes a good point. The Santacon outfits obscure identity and are part of the reason that the participants become so emboldened (anonymity plus alcohol=extra woooooooooooooo!). I still don't get why the city doesn't have a field day writing tickets for public intoxication. Seems that it would be a great source of revenue.
