In which we turn 6! 6! 6!
[One day on Second Avenue]
The EV Grieve website/blog turns 6 tomorrow. Thought I'd mention it now, though.
The whole thing started because of this. (Ultimately a false alarm! Thanks Page Six!)
Anyway, on previous anniversaries, I talked about the secret formula for blogging (No. 4) and my dubious past as TV Grieve (No. 5).
Today, I'm here to talk about the future. Starting today, I'm launching a Kickstarter campaign without a business plan to raise $750,000 to create Grieve.You.Me, a new site powered by a proprietary algorithm that also generates positive Yelp reviews and...
Ahhh. OK, a sincere thank you to everyone who has been part of any of EVG these past six years… from taking the time to read the site… sharing the posts… commenting, complaining, commiserating, passing along tips, laughing, crying… you know. Your involvement and camaraderie makes it all worthwhile. (And a large thank you to everyone who contributes to the blog on a regular basis, including Bobby Williams, who sends me great photos every day, and James Maher, who presents a compelling portrait of our neighbors every week in Out and About in the East Village.)
Thank you.
As for the real future, I'm looking forward to continuing on… hope that you are too.

Your remarks and lively debates are welcome, whether supportive or critical of the views herein. Your articulate, well-informed remarks that are relevant to an article are welcome.
However, commentary that is intended to "flame" or attack, that contains violence, racist comments and potential libel will not be published. Facts are helpful.
If you'd like to make personal attacks and libelous claims against people and businesses, then you may do so on your own social media accounts. Also, comments predicting when a new business will close ("I give it six weeks") will not be approved.
Congratulations on another year of informative, sad, joyous, funny, voluminous, and always entertaining content...What an effort! And same to the equally entertaining cabal (mob? cadre? congregation? herd?) of commenters. Six blogger years is something like 117 people years, so please don't slip on the ice and break a hip or something.
ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary! This blog may be six years old today, but it still feels shiny and new. ;) CC
ReplyDeleteIf it wasn't for my morning coffee, you'd be my morning coffee...thanks for another year of keeping us informed, amused, rattled, shocked and entertained!! Good job!
ReplyDeleteha ha ha ha ha! happiest of birthdays! xo, jg
ReplyDeleteRock On You Shiny East Village Star!
ReplyDeleteYou're much more than 4!

Happy Blogiversary!
ReplyDeleteAnother Happy Anniversary wish!
ReplyDeleteTits'n'Arrows will always keep me returning......
ReplyDelete......along with your (hopefully)never-ending love affair with your neighbors and the ever-changing Village zeitgeist. Your missives are like a letter from home every day.
(And a special shout-out to Magic Hawk......click-on, brother, click-on!)
ALL of Canada salute you!
(But most likely with that crappy Tim Horton's coffee....so don't get too excited :+)
Happy anniversary! Thanks for all the hard work keeping the 'hood informed on all the news. Best blog ever.
ReplyDeleteHappy Blogaversery you biscuit-eating, CitiBike-riding, SantaConning, arrow manufacturing, Death Star loving, naked chick stalking, Rays' egg cream drinking, NYU mayhem following, hungry hawk watching, FroYo slurping, EV weatherman reporting, Jerry's newsstand saving, roof raging, mystery lot loving, cronut eating, 7-11 bashing, Crusty hugging, street furniture collecting, Schwimmer mansion gawking, Joe Strummer remembering, Starbucks snarking, sidewalk stain inspecting blogger extraordinaire, you are the best!
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday! Yours is the first blog I read in the morning.
ReplyDeleteI love your page, posts and pics...growing up on the Lower east side in the 70''s early 80's were the best years of my life. Living in Oklahoma now, but when I return home I always walk down Ave A...especially for Ray's egg creams.
ReplyDeleteThank you for doing this, buddy. It is important to be informed about the neighborhood and this has probably been the catalyst for many positive changes and awareness. Also, as far as Sophie's - love it, but they need to play their own music when nobody is using the jukebox - it ruins the atmosphere when the music just stops for an hour.
ReplyDeleteHere's to the next 6. Thanks for all the effort - yours, and all of your participants!
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday EV Grieve! So grateful to have an amazing community information resource (that is not afraid to kick up a little dust) like you on the web to read every day.
ReplyDeleteA great 6 years- here's to many many more.
ReplyDeleteCan't imagine a day without you..

ReplyDeleteYalza... 6 years! Now that's a LTR! Congrats Grieve. Keep up your great work. m
ReplyDeletehappy birfday, evg ! :D
ReplyDeleteThanks for keep doing all that you do, Grieve. You're a big part of the EV experience. The debates, for better or worse, on this website are a valuable resource for keeping 'our' neighborhood, ours.
ReplyDeleteCongrats! And thank you for making me laugh and cry for six years straight.
ReplyDeleteAm I correct in saying you have NEVER missed a day, except maybe one during Sandy??
I'll set up the Kickstarter to fund your mayoral campaign.
As others have said, yours is the first blog I check in the mornings! Thanks for everything!
ReplyDeleteAnd keep the Hawk pics comin'! :)
Happy Blogiversary! Keep on cranking it out! Cya at 5 for the video!
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday! Thank you for being an informative and entertaining part of my morning coffee. Here's to six more years! Where's that Kickstarter link at?
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday, EVG, and to many many more. Thanks for all you write, even if it's sometimes hard to read...not your fault though!
ReplyDeleteKeep up and thanks for the good work.
ReplyDelete6 years old?! That's like eleventy million one hundred and thirty three blog posts by my estimation which is a lot of work by anyone's estimation. At some point during those six years you became another one of the neighborhood institutions that keeps the EV so great. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteI tell everyone I meet that lives in this hood to read EV Grieve, I for sure read it daily (sometimes I check in a few times per day). Fantastic reporting, commentary, and oh those reader's comments....
ReplyDeleteA big grateful thank you!
Happy 666 wizzle! Come 2 my pad later and ill let you violate my air rights and slap my puss NYPD style! Boom! #lowercaser #yala
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday, Grieve!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the blog. It seems paradoxical, but your virtual EV community actually makes the physical EV feel more like a neighborhood.

Happy Anniversary!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday!™
ReplyDeleteHappy 6th anniversary, EVG! Thanks for helping me stay tuned into New York, all the way back here in P-Town!
ReplyDeleteCongrats! This blog is a highlight of my daily lunch hour. Despite the changes and short comings, I still love the East Village and can't imagine living anywhere else.
ReplyDeleteblog years are like doggie years. so it's really like you've been writing for 42 years. congrats on the accomplishment!
ReplyDelete"If 6 Was 9". Anyway, congrats!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, this is me.
(And pls buy my new CD. Pls. Somebody?)
Moved out of StuyTown 3 years ago, but still read EVG every day, and add my snark (when appropriate).
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday Grieve !!
You have no idea. NO IDEA. You are a lifeline for the East Village. In the words of St Paul: I have fought the good faith. I have finished (though not yet hopefully) and I have kept the faith." Rock on EVGrieve. Rock on!
ReplyDeleteWoooooooooooooooooo!®
ReplyDelete[One of the few times I'll tolerate and ever wooooo]
Thank you all for the kind words!
ReplyDeleteI've lived here for decades...but because I never talk to anyone, I never knew what was going on in my neighborhood until this blog started to give us all the skinny. Thank you for everything!
ReplyDeleteThanks Mr. Grieve - congratulations!!!
ReplyDeleteIt's why blogs should exist. I can't imagine the internet without it. Keep on keepin on.
ReplyDeleteMazel Tov!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations, EVG. You keep us in stories we want to read!
ReplyDeletei moved here to nyc about 1.5 years ago (dreamt about it for years) and landed foot in the east village -- the same place i went when i first visited.
ReplyDeletefucking aye. now i'm a part of it and i've been turning to this blog every day to learn about what's going on and learn about how to be an effective member of the community.
reading about all the closures really changed the way i see commerce and where my money goes. (no more bullshit, hipster hype). no more woo hoo-ing down the street (of which i've been guilty of). and god damnit - making eye contact with everyone i walk past.
thank you! and also, some of the readers comments have reminded me that even some progressive, or liberal or social-minded citizens get just as grumpy and bitter with age.
If you don't like turning 6, then moved to ________.
ReplyDeleteThe liberal or social-minded citizens get grumpy and bitter not with age but by the closures of beloved establishments because of that commerce chains, and by the woo-hooing of the newbie transients that think that they can treat the EV as their own personal playground as mommy and daddy keeps funding them to play..
@ 12:28
ReplyDeletesorry, what i meant to say was that some progressive and liberal people are just as scared of change as everyone else.
this is not placing a value judgement on any of those changes; just an observation. i'm on the same side of the fence as most ev citizens are, but i read some of the comments here and it's like, "nope. don't want to end up like that person."
and no, i'm not a trustfund baby. i'm a highschool dropout from east la, born to poverty class immigrant parents who remain modest, and i send THEM money, so let's not even fucking go there.
