SantaCon makes it official: The fucking thing starts in Tompkins Square Park

There were some people who thought the whole "SantaCon starts in Tompkins Square Park" was a bad dream. Not so! The official SantaCon website makes it official tonight… 10 a.m. in Tompkins Square Park.

Meanwhile, tomorrow, the 9th Precinct's annual children's Christmas event is tomorrow on East Fifth Street from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. (times cut off in the photo)… So…. Do with that information what you will...

Meanwhile Part 2, as BoweryBoogie points out tonight, the Lower East Side allegedly got nixed from the Official SantaCon Bar Crawl Route, according to the LES Dwellers…

  1. Don't know if anybody caught it last night, but CBS news did a bit highlighting the horrors of SantaCon. They even featured one bar that is refusing to let the Santas in.

If anybody interested in seeing main media take on the issue, just google "santacon cbs news"

  2. That means they'll all arrive sober and be gone by lunchtime. As good as SantaCon news can get, in my opinion. We win! Sorta!

  3. these flyer's should not be printed and placed all around the 7-11 on E11th and A. otherwise the 7-11 might get inundated with rude, aggressive, belligerent, drunk monsters!

  4. ...and the weather is with us too, though it won't be a Nor'easter and comes a bit too late, but here is a winter weather advisory: Sat 6 am too Sun 6 am, snow, turning in the evening to sleet and frozen rain, winds from Northeast at 5-25 mph, gusts up to 30mph. That should keep the streets neat and clean.

  6. Sorry LES Dwellers, but in spite of your nice try at trying to divert the event with a last minute propaganda and disinformation campaign, the starting point, which we already knew, was just announced as Tompkins Square Park, and the previously announced route goes right through the LES and into Brooklyn.

Each year the SantaCon organizers refuse to announce the exact the route until the day of the event, which participants get by texting Follow SantaCon to 40404, or by downloading the handy iphone or Android app.

So unless you know something everyone else doesn't, I'm not sure how you get 20,000 drunk Santas from the East Village and into Brooklyn without going through the Lower East Side. Not unless you are planning to build a huge fence around it and forcing everyone to go through Chinatown instead.

Nice try though, but if we are stuck with SantaCon kicking off in the EV then so are you. Guess we will see you in the morning with a thousand drunk Santas traipsing, puking, urinating and fighting their way the Lower East Side.

  7. I live in the East Village, but I am visiting London and thought I could be safe from SantaCon here. But I'm not because I just found out it is happening here, too, today! Help!

  8. According to a leaked list of SantaCon stops, the East Village is ground zero for most of today's event. The first stops are on Avenue A including Doc Hollidays, Double Down, Library Bar, Drom, then moving over to Balzac Horseshoe on Avenue B, then Three of Cups and Lunasa on 1st Ave, Bull McCabes on St Marks Place, Thirsty Scholar, Prof. Thom, Finnerty's and Ryan's Irish Pub on 2nd Avenue, and of course Nevada Smiths, Village Pourhouse and Bar None on 3rd Ave. By my count there are over 25 stops in the EV alone, meaning 80% of all official Manhattan stops will be right here. Which means if you live in the EV and love or hate SantaCon, you won't be able to miss it today.

This will end in beers, let's just hope no one gets seriously hurt or hurled upon.

  9. Twenty-five stops in the East Village alone, and according to the bros, if we don't like it, WE can move. Whereas they get to go back to wherever they came from (except for the frat boys across the hall.)

  11. Sung to the chorus of Neil Young's "Harvest"

    Puke up, puke up!
    Won't you fill my cup?
With the vomit of a Santa man?

  12. I just hope the PATH & NJT stop running due to the weather, and mommy and daddy have to drive in to pick up their santas.

They might as well puke in the minivan and take it home with them as opposed to leaving it here. Should be a pleasant ride on a day too cold & snowy to open the windows.

  13. I want to remind all residents to complain to 311 this year.... Remember last year the politicians said that none of the residents called 311.
Let us all raise our voices this year and go on record...

  14. So it sounds like they're making their way to the 3d Ave L stop? Into Brooklyn that way? Thus no LES.
