This air conditioner fell from the Christodora House today
Dang. EVG regular Jose Garcia was on the scene on East Ninth Street just east of Avenue B around noon. "It came perilously close to hitting a pedestrian. Totally freaked everyone out."
According to Jose, it appears that the AC unit came from near the top of the building — roughly three floors down from the roof.

ReplyDeleteDid it fall? Or was it pushed?!
ReplyDeleteI'm guessing that the 9th Precinct will be visiting the building to determine where the AC fell from. Right?
ReplyDeleteOr does the condo corporation just get hit with a big fine for not verifying that the ACs in the building were properly installed?
Or do we just forget about it because, what the hell, those condos have helped to increase property values in the EV.
it may have jumped perhaps a case of the holiday blues?
ReplyDeleteSomebody got some splainin to do. That is a serious, serious offense. Of course it was probably not intentional, but there must be repercussions nonetheless. You cannot be careless about something like window AC installation. Lives depend on it.
ReplyDeletethis is really scary. it is also on the way that many people walk to being their kids to school and the park. thank god noone was hit.
ReplyDeleteMaybe it couldn't stand to bear witness to another SantaCon?
ReplyDeleteThis is as good a time as any to post this -

Window air conditioners are awful. They're an eyesore, noisy, dangerous, and generally inefficient.
ReplyDeleteSome thoughts: Any new construction should be built with proper ventilation and as much natural cooling as possible. Houses and buildings used to built to take advantage of natural methods of cooling. All the air conditioning, of course, actually heats up the city and environment more, which makes people want more AC, etc. Furthermore, use of air conditioning over time probably reduces your actual heat tolerance, so people end up "addicted' to AC. Obviously it will be a hard sell to reduce AC dependence, but it might become necessary as the environmental damage increases.
