The plywood came off today at the former New Corner Magazine (or King's Magazine) on St. Mark's Place at Third Avenue.
The landlord told us that the space will remain a newsstand, though there will be "an upgrade in the operator and the space."
The space will have a more appealing look for the
And the space will no longer have a little kiosk on Third Avenue… where DJ Lenny M held forth for so many years…

A reader tells us that the newsstand is now open... though it is not yet fully stocked.
Previously on EV Grieve:

What happened to DJ Lenny M?
This will fail in six months, sit vacant for a year and a half and then become a Citibank atm kiosk.
ReplyDeleteWell, if they had to move out the old mag store, I at least wish they could have relocated the Papaya King to that space.
ReplyDeletePapaya Kings need to be a corner spot.
(just makes them taste better.)
I'm pretty sure they left off the last letter in the name of the "Pani" gift store, because you would have to be in a total "Panic" to want buy gifts for anyone there.
ReplyDelete…and the BS just keeps on-a-comin…
ReplyDeleteGo ahead, destroy ever last damn sliver of identity in the EV.
Well that looks like crap.
ReplyDelete@ Giovanni. Oddly enough, you're wrong. "Pani" is the plural of "Penis." I don't know what kind of store it is, and I especially don't know if electricity is involved.
ReplyDeleteGlass fucking walls? Really?
ReplyDeleteIt was such a great newsstand. Goddamn it.
@ John M I get a sense the people who moved here 5 minutes ago are terrified to walk through the door of any establishment they can't see first.
ReplyDeleteThe last time I went in there half the mag space appeared to be taken up by porn in 3 for $5 wrappers...
ReplyDelete@DrGecko: so if you are correct then can we assume they will be selling certain male body parts in nygrump's 3 for $5 wrappers? And again I ask, what kind of gift is that?
ReplyDeletePorn Mags 3 for $5, what a bargain. I think I'm going get some.
ReplyDelete@Giovanni: At those prices, those are probably used gifts. You have been warned.
ReplyDeleteGlass walls? No thanks. I'd rather not risk having a pick-pocket eye where I put my wallet after my purchases are rung up.
