A special Lou Reed delivery
Spotted on East Eighth Street and Avenue B this afternoon… (a copy of) the large format Polaroid of the late musician taken in Montauk in 2002 by Julian Schnabel … from the book "Julian Schnabel: Polaroids."

...inquiring minds recognize that doorway!
ReplyDeletePolaroid Large format is not that large, even remotely. That is not an original Polaroid print. Maybe it is a framed poster, or maybe it is a copied print from the original Polaroid. But it is most definitely not one of the original Schnabel Large Format Polaroid prints. The large format Polaroids are about 20" X 24". That thing looks to be at least 70 inches tall...

Right: process of elimination says it can't be St. Brigid's and it can't be Tompkins Square, so it must be the Newsboys' Home. Mystery solved.
Given the amazing history of this building (I went to school there), somehow I imagine Lou seeing this photo from up above and writing a song about it.
