[Updated] For the Mudtrucks, chrome is the new black
[Via Mudspot's Facebook page]
Well, it looks like Mudspot Coffee has retired their familiar orange ... the Mudtrucks, which have been around since 2000, have a new look as of yesterday ... @sammers133 spotted the new chrome model on Astor Place today...
Nice! But will the truck absorb too many rays reflecting off of 51 Astor Place? May need some better AC come summertime.
Updated 4:30
We checked in with Mudspot General Manager Yasmina Palumbo about the change.
"Well, it kinda just happened. We were part of an event that asked us to go chrome for the day. We did it and we liked it so much we decided to keep it — but just for a minute. Mudtruck Orange will be back — way before the melting sun of summer!"

oh god why
ReplyDeleteIt's super ugly and they are abandoning what makes them instantly recognizable.
Sterile, just like what the EV and NYC has become.
ReplyDeleteSaw the new truck this morning at Astor, looks f'n awesome!
ReplyDeleteWow, that's annoying.
ReplyDeleteI like their signature look. This, you will be blinded by. Looks like a shiny industrial kitchen. Or futuristc Food cart brought to you by Apple.
I like it! It has a Daft Punk fee about it. Change is always bad people.
ReplyDeleteI have to say, since they're keeping their orange trim, this looks kinda cool. I want to see what their new travel mugs will look like.
ReplyDeleteAs dull and generic as those gastropubs. This a gastrotruck. And it's a reflection of those glass condos monstrosities, it is so that customers can see a reflection of themselves, to see themselves as well as seen by others while waiting for a cup of Mud. NYC is now a Panopticon Metropolis afterall. "anyone seeking the Gaze would be attracted to a place where there are 8 million pairs of eyes by which to be seen." Meeeeeeeee!
ReplyDeleteAs long as the coffee remains good.
ReplyDeleteAs long as the wheels stay orange.
ReplyDeleteIt's the selfie-truck
ReplyDeleteit looks like the Lambo of that creepy lawyer dude. fail.
ReplyDeleteBring back the orange!
ReplyDeleteI love it! They should keep the chrome. It works well with the orange accents.
ReplyDeleteThey need to sell to yuppies at deathstar to keep alive, yuppies like sh*t they can see themselves with. Make money, Mud. You had me since Sandy, good looking out for us.(that is sincere, they were really cool)
ReplyDeleteIt's been Cemusa'd! Ugh.
ReplyDeleteDon't get so excited people, apparently it's a temporary thing.
ReplyDeleteHey! Shawn Chittle, FUNNY!
as much as i think the new truck looks stupid and garish, i kind of want them to keep it to piss you all off.
ReplyDeletegood lord people, have you nothing better to do than piss and moan about the paintjob on a coffee truck?
That new truck is a reflection of the times.
ReplyDeletegood lord 1:33 am, have you nothing better to do at 1:33 am than piss and moan about the pissing and moaning of the paintjob on a coffee truck?
ReplyDelete9:33 AM is too early for pissing and moaning about other people pissing and moaning at 1:33am.
ReplyDeleteAnd by the way, 1:33 AM, intentionally trying to piss people is the definition of trolling.
To give a contrary opinion (something that never happens on this blog, of course), I don't like these trucks. Noisy and polluting, and more disposable paper/plastic cups for coffee. I won't support them in any color.

They are a huge supporter of the community. I have seen them donate to all types of local events. I love the new color and remember people it is temporary!
ReplyDeleteand pissing and moaning about someone pissing and moaning about someone pissing and moaning about the design of a new truck is very mannerly. 1am is waaaay earlier than 9am to piss and moan. if you don't like pissing and moaning then move to__________
ReplyDeleteMore birds will die flying into it. Astor Place now gets my virtigo going, with all the dizzying glass, mirror effects.
ReplyDelete"But will the truck absorb too many rays reflecting off of 51 Astor Place? May need some better AC come summertime."
ReplyDeleteLast time I checked, chrome reflects light, black paint would absorb it. So the trucks would need less AC, not more...
@Dan
ReplyDeleteI'm glad someone was paying attention!
