[Updated] The future of 50-62 Clinton St will look something like this

The businesses in the single-level building along 50-62 Clinton St. have cleared out in recent months ahead of some new, unspecified development. (BoweryBoogie first reported this impending new construction between Stanton and Rivington back in January.)

An EVG reader who lives nearby pointed us to the renderings for the address ... courtesy of architect Ramy Isaac...





The Isaac-Stern website has little info about the the project, other than that:

Mix use building, residential and commercial.
7 story over cellar, approximately 50,000 sf.

Isaac is teaming up once again with the developers at Icon Realty, who are listed as the owners of the address via DOB permits filed with the city on March 11.

The Lo-Down has an update about one of the tenants along this corridor:

While the sale included the building housing acclaimed restaurant WD-50, a spokesperson for chef Wylie Dufresne told The Lo-Down he has no plans to leave the building before his lease expires in a couple of years.

  3. Loft living in fake loft buildings is really where its at. I expect the listing to read something like this... Pretend to live on the edge with daddy's money and allow yourself the freedom of expression that the EV / LES is all about, yo. On the same block as WD 50 so "SWEETBREADS, CUCUMBER-LYCHEE, TONIC, FERMENTED BLACK BEAN" can be yours every night. Enjoy the diversity the neighborhood provides with people from a variety of fraternities and sororities, IVY and non-IVY league schools. Nows the time to take the plunge into this newly built "historical" building.

  4. Obviously the ongoing razing of our hood troubles me deeply, that goes without saying. But having said it, the brick and mullion-window design of this bldg are 1,000% better than shiny glass towers or flat walls plastered with chrome-railed balconies, or....

  5. This is quite okay - it sorta looks like a 1920s factory. I like the tower elements; at least it's not just another sheet facade of crappy material built fast and cheap to cash in.

    Take it down one floor, and I might be in favor of it.

    Interesting to see faux-factory becoming cool. Like making bad soho buildings.

    New construction meant to emulate (fake) beautiful historically appropriate buildings. Or, the alternative…?
