After 22 years, Norman's Sound & Vision closed at 67 Cooper Square near East Seventh Street back in August 2012.
Now comes word via EVG Facebook friend Michael Hirsch that the space will become a — ding, ding! — Dunkin' Donuts.
Sure enough!
The DOB permits approved on Tuesday show work for a DD in this space...
Meanwhile, just give us a kick down here on the floor when a Starbucks or bank or 7-Eleven moves into the Kim's space.

If it has to be a donut place, can't we at least get a Krispy Kreme? Original glazed are the best. I guess donuts really are the new sushi.

ReplyDeleteIsn't unfettered capitalism grand? Of course in mid-town they have zoning restricting the numbers of banks per block, and in other towns they have restrictions on chains and big-box stores, but none of that for us on the LES (post-Bloomberg).

Hello Giovanni, newsflash. Sushi stopped being a trend about twenty years ago. Now, it is just one of the many foods American people enjoy regularly. I am onboard with most of your antiestablishment rhetoric but when you squawk about this so-called sushi trend taking over New York, you sound like you are ninety years old.

I just hope they serve sushi-flavored donuts, because we really don't have enough sushi places in this neighborhood. And tuna fish ice cream too, that would be a nice change from the salmon flavored froyo they serve over at Pinkberry. Pass the wasabi, please.
ReplyDeleteDunkin Donuts sucks! It's not just about donuts either. I am not a customer but evidently a lot of their business nowadays comes from deluxe coffee drinks and rubbery egg sandwich products. They have changed with the times and the people seem to approve unfortunately.

Surprised at all the hatin' for Dunkin. At least it's a place I will occasionally buy something at, unlike all the other new openings. A donut, a semi-drinkable cup of coffee, and do they all have the ice-cream co-location now?, well if so a small cup of pralines and cream is about $2.50 and is quite enough for two. And the employees are always polite and helpful in these places.

No but seriously, as was stated in a previous comment, if it has to be doughnuts, why does it have to be the WORST possible kind. DD is disgusting. At least Starbucks TRIES to put on a chic, new york city, neighborhoodly act, but the atmosphere in DD is basically akin to a discarded elementary school playground.
And their coffee sucks.
And their donuts suck.
And their staff sucks.
And their corporation sucks.
And their spelling sucks.

If Funkiberry just changes their name to Sushiberry then they could get into the whole sushification trend with sushi flavored Froyo. Served on a hoof of course.
ReplyDeleteSomeone once told me this whole sushi thhing is going to be really big some day, but I'm not so sure we 'Mericuns will ever go for raw, uncooked smelly fish, wrapped in seaweed and then dipped in horseradish and soy sauce. Who would ever eat that? But mix it with frozen yogurt and you might be onto something big.
I actually tried some sushi the other day, if you heat it up in the microwave it's not half bad. Adding a little mustard (French's, not Grey Poupon) really helps bring out the flavor too.
