Purple Rain on Avenue A
Just noting the rather awesome new roll-down gate art at Mikey Likes It, the four-week-old ice cream shop at 199 Avenue A near East 12th Street.
The Prince mural, created by Bronx-based artist Andre Trenier, is in honor of the shop's Flavor of the Month: Purple Rain (double blueberry ice cream with cheesecake chunks).
The Mikey is the owner Mike Cole, a lifelong resident of Stuy Town.

Nice gate, chubby local in sharp whites running the show, what's not to like? Will be stopping by to sample the wares for sure. Hope many others do the same.
ReplyDeleteAnyone know what became of the Casa Gusto (the gelato place that used to occupy the same space) or its employees? During the summer it had been a bit of a tradition with my kids... Anyway I was very sad to see Casa Gusto was gone, but I'm very happy to see that the new business is owned by a local resident.
ReplyDeletea spot by an actual local? extra extra PROPS to you Mike! i'm in there!
ReplyDeleteCasa Gusto had become a tradition? It was there for about 5 minutes. I think it's time to check the meaning of the word tradition. Ray's should be the place for tradition with kids, what with their kids cone prices at adult cone sizes. Now there's a tradition.
ReplyDeleteDon't tell my friends at Big Gay Ice Cream, but I am going to give this place a try!

You can always get the cashew-based ice cream at [formerly] Lula's on 6th street; it's a lot better for you than dairy, and they have awesome flavors.
Great mural, that ice cream looks irresistible, and Mikey seems like a good guy. Welcome to the neighborhood (well, alright, you've lived in the neighborhood all your life, but welcome your business the neighborhood!)
