Small tree meets 'terrible end' on 3rd Avenue

An EVG reader noted this earlier today on Third Avenue at East 12th Street:

Did you see the tree in front of Funkiberry/Han Dynasty met some terrible end? I saw it very early this morning ... .within the last hour it got cleaned up. Now the little tree is over by the trash can.

Anyone know what happened here? (Specifically about the tree...)

Here's a Google Street View of the tree from last September...

  3. Avenues + trees = dead trees from trucks. At least that my guess.

  5. I'm going to guess it was a drunken DoucheBro.

For some reason drunk assholes love to destroy tress whenever they can.

  6. It appears that the tree was dead prior to it being chopped(note the tree in the background is covered with leaves, and this one doesn't even have a tiny bud on it)

    RIP tree! :(

  7. This has to be Funkiberry related. No good can come of freely allowing just anyone to rule the scene, on top of the portions and the choices. Madness can only follow.

    RIP tree

  8. This should be submitted to 311, or http://www.nycgovparks.org/services/forestry/dead-tree-removal. It looks like it was a fairly young tree, and it may still be under 'warranty' from the contractor who planted it. If that's the case, they are obligated to replace it.

  10. Treeicide. It couldn't stand being in such close proximity to Shittiberry.
