What are you talking about? I thought everyone hated the last 20yrs and wanted the old NYC back. Isn't that right? Well this was part of that. This used to be way more common than it is now. This is just the beginning of Bill DeBlasio bringing us back to the good old days. Rents are a lot cheaper when junkies and hookers and aggressive panhandlers and crazy homeless rule the streets. Like the crazy guys who used to run wild on the upper west side. The cops aren't coming. get used to it. They know city hall isn't their friend anymore so why risk their career or pension. They will do less- a lot less. The aggressive policing of Doomberg is coming to an end. Get used to it. Isn't that what you want?

Cheap rents - high crime- mayhem in the streets- cheap rents for the stores- isn't that the deal that people want back? when the banks and chains wouldn't come here and neither would the tourists or the flyover zone transplants- isn't that the goal? isn't that why Bill D is the mayor?

ReplyDeleteGet your head out of your ass. People lament the loss of art, culture, and the means to facilitate it e.g. CBGB, Shakespeare Books (soon), etc. not people sleeping in the streets.
Where did I or anyone else say we want rampant, visible homelessness back? I certainly didn't, and I'm NOT saying sweep them under the rug and hide them. Here's something to wrap around your peabrain: I want the '80s and '90s NYC to come back minus the destitution. How's that? Got it? Good. Now kindly take your anti-DeBlasio rants and shove 'em up your ass. This city has been turned into a culutral morass by Giuliani and Bloomberg, maybe the tide turns just a bit with DeBlasio (most likely not.)

Why do we have gentrification, crappy bros and woo-ers, and ALSO have a huge homeless problem? It kind of is the worst of both worlds here these days.

ReplyDeletePolicy changes Bloomberg and Cuomo are a big part of it. Bloomberg bears most of the blame. The number of shelter residents exploded his era. He was a complete failure in this regard. But he got a lot of shady rich foreigners to buy condos and he put more effort into that.Contrast his statement that people are in the shelters longer because they don't want to leave with the times artciles about the nightmare the shelters really are.
