Good samaritan thwarts bike theft, leaves note

[Click on image to read the note]

Based only on anecdotal evidence, there seems to be more bike thefts around the neighborhood.

Here's a bike — described as an "attention-getting neon green and yellow" — that almost became a statistic.

EVG reader Randy Kato shared this note from East Second Street and Avenue A … attached to bike wheel still locked in place — without the rest of the bike.

The note explains:

"Some one tried to steal your bike — got it back from the fucker — (I didn't wanna go to the police because they make everything into an ordeal) … If you can unlock the wheel we'll know your the real bike owner — I left just left it in a nearby store — They're good guys."

  2. Never use cables, no matter how thick they are they are too easy to cut... its how I lost an older cheapo street bike ... i now use kryptonite chains that if they were new would be more expensive than my current cheapo Huffy

  3. That is a decent Kryptonite lock, but it was used all wrong! Looks like the owner secured only the wheel with the u-lock, and used the flimsy cable to secure the frame. Next time try it the other way around!

  4. Some lurker was on my block (E 3RD) yesterday staring at my shitty bike with a great lock. I said "you like my bike"? And I was saying how it was a beautiful classic, and that he has a few hundred bikes on Ebay. I'ma keep my eye out the window for that mothafucka. Mad shady. I also saw these corny, suburban type college aged chicks giggling down the block today and making faces at each other after passing a Puerto Rican guy talking loudly. F those girls.
