Crews were apparently filming a wintertime scene of the upcoming Starz TV series "Flesh and Bone" on East Ninth Street on this chilly 90-degree day ... which is why the actors were in coats and stuff.
And about the show!
Claire, a talented but emotionally troubled dancer, joins a company in New York City, and soon finds herself immersed in the tough and often cutthroat world of professional ballet.
Sounds hot.

gosh, that's a topic that has never been explored before, how fascinating. It directly touches my life. Especially since ballet is so deeply entrenched in our popular culture. In the next episode, our hero saves the world from the continuing (3 years!) gushing radiation well in Fukushima, even though another dancer. jealous of her good work, tries to stop her using devious means.
ReplyDeleteI am intrigued by the concept of the show. Hopefully it deals more with the artistic challenges than just another glamorization of "If you can make it here, you can make it anywhere". I'm looking forward to seeing it...

No more film shoots in the EV!

as long as they don't mess with the legacy of tanaquil le clercq. i'm just saying...
ReplyDeleteI-)
nygrump, Don't be such a grump. It's obvious you can't dance. Ballet is life.
ReplyDeleteAnd then she meets a tall young Viking named Daniel Rakowitz who walks around the EV with a rooster in his backpack, moves in with him, and then really winds up in the soup
ReplyDeleteGood one, old timer!
DeleteHaven't we seen this before? Oh yeah… It was called FAME, FLASHDANCE etc. etc… Except then you could still come to NYC and be a struggling dancer, painter, etc… They should rename the show "Pound of Flesh", as that's what is takes to get an apartment now (if you don't have rich parents or work a corporate job).
ReplyDeleteMy mother was a professional ballet dancer for a few years until she, in quick succession, slipped on some wet leaves and sprained her ankle, and while healing, met my father.
ReplyDeleteSo, there probably are people interested in the movie, such as my mother. But, hey, if it doesn't touch NYGrump's personal life, there's no point in making it.
The "script"was, from one of the kids sitting on the stoop, something like "girl, your legs would look SOOoo good wrapped around my waist"...just lovely.
ReplyDeleteI've seen this before: Black Swan, Breakin', Electric Boogaloo, Step-Up 3D...
ReplyDeleteOne doesn't have to be an "old timer" to know about Fame and Flashdance. Everything now is a re-hash of the 80's, including New York City (in a sanitized, theme-park sort of way). People move there now for it's ghosts (including, with regard to the EV, the ghost of punk). Plain and simple.
ReplyDeleteA good example of this, besides this silly TV show, would be the "punk" boxing gym that's slated to open in the EV soon, which is to be run by two "hedge fund-ish" guys.
Hilarious.
aw whatever! they make everything over and over again; there's always a younger audience that wants their own version of these stories. nothing wrong with that, although I personally also prefer the original Fame, etc. They'll never find a guy as foxy as Leroy!;)
