Thanks for posting this. It was taken between 7 and 10pm. I filed a police report, etc. I can't imagine they'll find it, but who knows... either way, I'm glad to have this in front of people in case someone sees it riding by (and also as a reminder that sometimes you need a REALLY heavy duty chain).

Go to every bike store in the hood and hand them a flyer with a picture of the bike and your #. Check out the flea markets as well.
ReplyDelete@Ted, I'll be looking for it too, good luck getting it back. I once had a bike stolen and found out who did it. My friends went to the home of the thug who did it and asked for it back He had already sold it on 125th St., a nice new Fuji 12 speed, orange with white trim. They told him to get the bike back in 24 hours or they would throw his mother out of their 18th floor window. I got the bike back the next day.

ReplyDeleteIt's really not so much about the lock (So don't beat yourself over that), which only gives you a false sense of security anyway. It's about getting in the habit of treating your bike like your wallet or iphone, which you'd never leave on the street. I'd keep it within sight, or bring it in wherever you go, and if you are hesitant to ask, then ask. And if it's a walk up, then lock it on the ground floor. This is a nice bike, and I'm sad your kids'll miss it more than anyone. And the dudes who stole it will just smash it up, break it down for the parts, or, as someone else said, ship it out to Queens. Try checking Craig's List, and whatever flea markets are around. This should be easily noticed, but I doubt the police will even do anything even if they see it. :>(
ReplyDeleteUgh. Sorry to hear this. I've been parking my Xtracycle (old school model) on the street for years with only a Kryptonite lock through the frame, though not overnight. I always figured it'd been spared because it was such a unique-looking bike that it'd be hard to sell, but they're getting increasingly popular. Hope you get it back.
