Free tonight in Tompkins Square Park: 'Midnight Cowboy'
[Where's Joe Buck?]
The Films in Tompkins series ends tonight with the Oscar-winning "Midnight Cowboy" from 1969.
Anyway, you know how it works. The films start at sundown... and there will be local bands or DJs performing from beforehand. And think about mosquito repellent.

Here's my article in Lambda http://www.lambdaliterary.org/features/12/28/where-ar-joe-buck-and-ratso-rizzo/
ReplyDeleteThe famous "I'm walking here" scene was a total accident that they left in the film. A taxi crept into the intersection as Ratso and Joe were crossing the street (the camera was hidden out of sight far away) and suddenly, Ratso became Dustin Hoffman, a typical angry Noo Yawka who doesn't like being fucked with (notice how his voice changes when he's yelling at the cabbie -- it's not Ratso's voice!) Voit looks on, wondering whether to cut or to keep going with the scene. Luckily they did....
