Mac specialists Digital Society has closed on East 10th Street

The 20-plus year-old Digital Society on East 10th Street at Broadway closed for good after business last Thursday.

There isn't any mention of a closure on their website.

As an "Apple Authorized Service Center," they were servicing our various Macs long before the arrival of the Apple stores. Now what?

  1. This store to me represented what a small business should be, friendly, personable and a less expensive alternative to the larger stores of its kind. I have bought a few Macs from DS of the years and the owners and workers seem to never change through all that time. Sorry to see them go.

  3. This is the first I've read of the closure; I've bought a few Macs from Digital Society, and had Macs serviced—including data recovery—almost since they opened their doors. The Mac I'm typing this on was from them this past Xmas.

I always preferred getting my stuff from them over the Apple store, and I had no idea they were closing. This sucks.

  7. This is terrible. They were such nice and helpful people. Really helpful. The city has gone to the rich rats clinging to the raft. The rest of us are sinking. Sad.

  8. Now, it's Tekserve over the Apple store; although they've changed immensely since they were in the Traffic building (163 West 23rd street) they still have a Coke machine that dispenses 10-cent cokes—don't they?
