Construction watch: 401 E. 8th St.

The new residential building at 397-401 E. Eighth St. at Avenue D is rising quickly...

A nine-story building with 33 units — and a penthouse! — is in the works.

And to chart the progress to date, here's a look at the building in early August...

... and mid-July...

And one day...

  1. Thank goodness this building is going up so quickly, unlike 277 East 7th, which has been excruciatingly slow and loud. It's been well over a year now of construction noise and workers shouting starting at 7am Monday through Saturday, and they still have a long way to go. As neighbors who have to work late, it's been a huge disruption to our lives. The noise from 401 East 8th isn't fun either, but at least we know it will pass in a reasonable timeframe.

  2. Future tenants? Good luck on avenue D and make sure you are armed. Coming and going.

  3. Actually, Anon 9:49, they used to say that about Avenue B, too.

  4. This lovely building turned my light and airy sun-filled apartment into a dark cave. All my windows now look at a wall--and my rent still went up this year!
