Report: Kevin McEnroe bought baking soda, not cocaine, last summer on 4th Street and Avenue A

Back in July, police arrested Kevin McEnroe, the son of tennis legend John McEnroe and Oscar-winning actress Tatum O’Neal, on East Fourth Street and Avenue A during a drug deal.

Now the Daily News reports that McEnroe was "sold baking soda when he thought he was buying cocaine."

Following his arrest, he was also found with 20 oxycodone pills and another 10 morphine tablets, per the Daily News.

And what does this mean?

McEnroe’s case will be dismissed and sealed if he stays out of trouble for six months and completes a treatment program at Hazelden, which will wrap around Nov. 20.

“Don’t commit any new offense or get rearrested,” Judge Lisa Sokoloff warned the 28-year-old Gowanus resident at the Manhattan Criminal Court hearing.

  1. One of my best friends taught at Trinity when he was a student there. Major troubles, major issues even then.

  2. I think his dismissal has less to do with the fake coke (and the real prescription drugs) and more to do with the fact that he's a rich white kid with famous parents?

    Just sayin'

  3. ...In other news, it turns out that a major supplier of baking soda was mistakenly shipping mislabeled bags of cocaine to the same bakery that makes Cronuts.

  4. You Cannot Be Serious?!?

Agree with 3:14 p.m., if he were an inner city minority poor or working class kid, he'd be facing jail time and have a criminal record, which would make finding a job/housing/credit difficult for him.

And even if that non-rich not white kid without a famous parents were buying even just a 16oz+ soda, he'd still be arrested if Bloomberg got his way.

Good to be rich, entitled, and white in NYC. Welcome to New York!

  5. I was arrested once with what turned out to be fake drugs (I sure hoped they were real). When the lab report came back that they were fake I still got charged with possession with intent to sell (I liked a lot of drugs). No, "aw shucks, they aren't real, lets just let the scamp go" for me. Nope. Life ruining felonies for this poor white kid

  6. So they arrested him for shopping at Key Food?

  7. Well maybe. Back in the day if I had baking soda in my pocket, it was a good bet it was there because I planned to be cooking up a little rock somewhere down the line.
    But that's just me.

That would explain why Cronuts are so addictive, G.
