Someone has ordered a robot butler here on Avenue A and St. Mark's Place...
So many jokes, so few blog posts.

Hmm, how many Robot Butlers arrived here today?
James and Karla Murray spotted this on East 14th Street between First Avenue and Second Avenue...

definitely viral marketing. not sure for what though, yet...
ReplyDeleteGood grief! That looks like the Robot in Robot and Frank! http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1990314/
ReplyDeletethis *might* help:

agree with the first commenter, this some kind of stunt. their website has literally zero information and their twitter account tweeted for the first time yesterday. this is basically gestations round 2.
ReplyDeleteKlaatu barada nikto?
ReplyDeleteIt's either Zoltar in a Box or a surrogate of the creepy bald-headed flyer guy. Depending on which one of these two it is I definitely DO or definitely DO NOT want one for Christmas.
ReplyDeleteIt was dropped off, and obviously empty by 2 guys in a white cc rental truck. They refused to speak.
ReplyDeleteiRobot
ReplyDeleteWonder if it's "looking for a girlfriend"? (Hey, or a boyfriend, for that matter!)
ReplyDeleteI know what you're thinking, but a romance between butler and employer is out of place, regardless of that butler's programming.
ReplyDeleteOne of these boxes was outside the western entrance of Washington Square Park too. Saw some douchey kid take a photo of it with his iPhone. Seems lame.
ReplyDeleteCan I get a blonde one dressed like a French maid? (A friend wants to know.)
ReplyDeleteIs this the model that can crush a child's skull on a playground in the foreground of a post-apocalyptic hellscape after the machines have become sentient and self-aware?
ReplyDelete@ pinhead I was curious if there was a Kelly LeBrock/Weird Science model
ReplyDelete@ 6:09 Fucking Skynet!
I, for one, welcome our new robot overlords
ReplyDeleteThe website is registered to someone in a condo called the Ohm on 11th Ave and 30th St, so its either a PR stunt, an art project, or both.
ReplyDeleteI had one outside my building (and it's still there actually)
ReplyDelete14th between Ave A + B at Stuyvesant Town apartments.
All I have to say is... clever, clever, clever...

The boxes are also showing up in downtown San Francisco. Either this is how the world ends or its just a marketing gimmick for an iPhone scheduling app.
ReplyDeleteLooks like some folks just got new beds delivered. Good for them.
ReplyDeleteFound this in Chicago today :) The descriptions on the box are quite clever and fun.

Grieve, I'll send you a dollar to stop promoting, I mean POSTING, about such obvious marketing campaigns.
ReplyDeleteIT HAS BEGUN BOW DOWN TO YOUR NEW ROBOTIC LORDS!
ReplyDeleteThis is how the Robin Williams movie "Millennium Man" started... maybe the movie is being remade!
ReplyDeleteI think a variation of these was just shipped to Washington DC. Except they're called Robot Republicans.
ReplyDeleteListening to Flaming Lips "yoshmi ..." is not the same after this post.
ReplyDeleteAfter burning through $140 million in investments. Quirky, that wacky company that brought you Wink (aka the "Robot Butler" which was actually just a lame remote control power switch that was recalled last April due to a major security flaw) and those cute squiggly power strips you see in every other NYU dorm room, has run out of money and is closing down. Not only did the company fail, but so did most of their crowd-sourced products. So if you were hoping for a Robot Butler under the Christmas tree this year, too bad, you are more likely to win the lottery and hook up with a drunk Pam Anderson at SantaCon.
