Word is the smoke shop rent doubled to $10,000. A for rent sign has been hanging on the space for months now.

Ah! Matt Rosen in the comments tells us that the shop is moving down Second Avenue … to the east side past East Fourth Street where Gelato Ti Amo recently closed … we even had photo evidence of this from last night via Slum Goddess…
They're moving into the former Gelato Ti Amo space down the street.
ReplyDeleteGreat news that they are moving- thanks for the update- It would be helpful if we somehow knew what these places were paying before the rent went up. Were they locked into long term deals with really low rent? It would be easier to understand these situations with some background on what commercial rents used to be and what they are now. Its easy to just say the rent went up. Can they afford the new rent but don't want to as it would eat up their profits? Or is this new rent ridiculous considering the space and the business they are in? Ill bash the landlord just like everyone automatically does but background would help.
ReplyDeleteAh, I am glad that was them moving in. I like that bodega even though I don't buy much in there. It's a "porn and soda." They have porn...and soda!
ReplyDeleteI was told by one of the guys who had worked there that the rent doubled from $5,000 per month to $10,000.
ReplyDeleteI believe the liquor store on fifth street that recently reopened will be temporarily taking this space in February while their original spot undergoes renovations/repairs.
