A quick check on the pre-blizzard line outside Trader Joe's

EVG reader Bonnie (who is not shopping) sent this in just before 11 a.m. here on East 14th Street ...

  1. This could easily be a stock photo because the line is always out of control there.

  2. I won't step foot in that hole. Any money you save is eaten up by waiting, and their foods aren't really that great if you start looking at the actual ingredients.

  3. Frequently see lines at Trader Joe's at this and other NYC locations. Quite incredible to see people waiting on line when they could easily go to another store. Trader Joe prices are not consistently "amazing"

Seems like mostly newbie-to-NYC twentysomethings who seem happy to wait on line for Trader Joe's (though no doubt too busy to register to vote..)

  4. I love standing on line outside Trader Joe's. It reminds me of that time I was trapped in a third-world country and we waited days for the helicopter to drop us rice.

  5. In communist Europe, people did this regularly because they didn't have a choice.

  6. True story...Trader Joe's makes their employees pretend they are on a ship and their titles are like first mate, etc.

  8. It doesn't seem to have occurred to any of them that it would have been easier to go across the street to Food Emporium.

  11. Yeah Food Emporium...the supermarket which charged $7.99 for strawberries citing "low supply" (so let's make up for the lost profit by jacking up the prices, ok) then dropped it to $4.99 then $3.99 shortly after I posted up a flyer (yes, a flyer) in my apartment building nearby telling everyone Whole Foods was charging $5.99 for the same thing. Whole Foods is currently charging only $3.99 for strawberries, FE $4.99.

    So FUCK Food Emporium.
