That "deal" is total BS. There is a huge fee to join. And their crappy signs are littering the neighborhood. Throw them out if you see them.

I stopped in and they said they are opening on March 2nd. There is a $50 annual fee and $19.95/$199 sign up or $29.95/$119 sign up or $39.95/$49 sign up.
ReplyDeleteThat works out to between $40-$50 a month plus you can bring a guest any time. They have classes, towels, locker rooms (no steam or sauna). The space is nice and bright in the daytime.
At least it's inexpensive for the neighborhood. I'm not sure what would have been a better fit for that space but yes the signage is really ugly compared to what was there.

The strange things about their pricing scheme is that the first option ($19.95) is the cheapest. I don't know why anyone would choose either of the other two options.
I have no feelings about their signage, just as I had no feelings about what was there before.

ReplyDeleteI think the Dolphin gym on E 4th St by 2nd Ave is open 24h Monday through Saturday evening (and is cheaper), so this NYSC compares very poorly. But thanks for sharing the info.
7:25am - The other two pricing plans are there for the poor. The poor only have a small amount of money to spend upfront, so it's best to screw them over in the long run.
ReplyDeleteOne advantage over Dolphin is that there are a whole bunch of NYSCs in Manhattan, while Dolphin has just the one. I presume membership at the Ave A NYSC gets you entree to all the others.

ReplyDeleteIf it works for you go ahead. BTW, it's a know fact, if you do any type of contract, buyer beware. There is tons of members blogs about what was done to them. I.E. Impossible to cancel membership, double billing, collection agency, etc.
