On Thursday, a reader told us that workers were putting up the signage at DumplingGo, the new, um, dumpling place opening on Second Avenue at East 12th Street…
...and the place was open for the weekend...
DumplingGo is part of the NYVA Restaurant Group — "an owner, operator, and proud franchisee for multiple brands."
Per the the DumplingGo website:
The DumplingGo franchise is conceived from a mix of Asian and Western business and culinary experiences. The Restaurant concept reflects the eclectic flavors and multicultural pallets of an interconnected global society.
With 20 years of business experience in the New York tri-state area, the founding partners have isolated a niche market in the fast-casual dining space. Our market research suggests that Dumplings are a growing market in metropolitan cities around the world and present a unique opportunity for a franchisor.
Perhaps their market research would have noted that there are already two choices for dumplings on this block. Mimi Cheng's Dumplings opened up right across the Avenue last July. And there's Plump Dumpling down on Second Avenue and East 11th Street.
Anyway, you can find the DumplingGo menu here. There's now another location on West Third Street with two more on the way in Manhattan.
The previous tenant here, Shima, abruptly closed in January 2014.

With Vanessa's, Mimi's and the Dumpling man (ultra cheap to ultra good) who needs a fast food dumpling chain wanna be. But it is better then a bank or duane..greens. So miss Shima food and staff.

ReplyDeleteI've ignored other of my comments not go through but this one draws the line; been waste of time and thoughts. Doubt that it's a glitch this mtime.Point of commenting is to stay close to the readers and what they care most about. Otherwise, why have it at all? But the way comments are now selected in this blog is like the way the new businesses attract their patrons, to make them feel like they are special.
This blog is becoming more and more like the new EV: sanitized to please the sensibilities of the humorless suburban mentality. Much like the EV. This blog is dead. Good luck to you all. It's been unreal.

Sorry to hear that you think it was a waste of your time and thoughts.
I visited Saturday and waited behind an older woman for ten minutes. The staff seemed to be jarred and confused. Perhaps it was being acclimated to the space? I still waited as another young girl at the register was trying to repair a computer terminal. I grew impatient and hungry, electing to eat somewhere else. Oh well.

ReplyDeleteNot a big dumpling guy myself but I would rather patronize the indie dumpling place across 2nd avenue instead. Tired of these two bit chain businesses trying to shoehorn themselves into our neighborhood and turn it into Squaresville.
