1st activity at 500 E. 14th St. since the demolition phase, and when the standing water froze
There's finally some activity to note at the southeast corner of 14th Street and Avenue A, home one day to a 7-floor retail-residential building from Extell Development.
Last week, workers erected some fencing and plywood …
Workers have put a temporary sidewalk in place on East 14th Street for pedestrian use once the construction begins...
Perhaps this is a sign that approved permits are on the way? The city has yet to OK the new building (the DOB disapproved the last round of plans back in November, according to city records). Meanwhile, the only thing happening here in previous months is the standing water on the lot freezing and thawing.
As a reminder of what the new development will look like… here's the conceptual rendering… 500 E. 14th St. will have 106 residential units.
And further to the east, 524 E. 14th St. will house 44 residential units…
The demolition of the one-level row of buildings along East 14th Street between Avenue A and Avenue B wrapped up last August.

Did they ever resolve whether or not they would build a new entrance to the 1st ave L stop on Ave A? I'd think it be in the cities and developers best interest.

ReplyDeleteI can see the writing on the wall. Units will probably go for a couple of million dollars with a waiting list from hipsters and bros and trust fund babies. Only in NYC kids. Land of the most expensive, over priced, over crowded city in the US. Makes you wonder why in the fuck any of us live here seeing as the economy and job market is shit.
ReplyDeleteThey have blocked almost an entire block of parking spaces on 14 Street and three parking spaces on Ave A. Besides inconveniencing all those who are trying to find a space - which in this neighborhood is like trying to find a needle in a haystack-it deprives the city of alot of revenue. And there is no actual work going on!!! There are just barriers put up, which block parking AND narrow the lanes on 14 St. causing an unsafe condition. Call 311 and local electeds to complain : Councilman Garodnick, CM Mendez, State Senator Hoylman, congressmember Maloney and the Assemblyman what's his name.
ReplyDeleteAs it is residents need to let several trains pass before getting on due to overcrowing on the L train and platform. The platform is quite packed and dangerous during rush hours in morning. How can it absorb the residents of two more buildings?
