As the sushi rolls on 1st Avenue



Sometime in the past week or so, Milosun Sushi closed at 141 First Ave. … quickly giving way to an all-you-can-sushi place called Kikoo, per EVG reader Charlie Chen.

The new restaurant between St. Mark's Place and East Ninth Street hasn't opened yet, though they do have a website:

Our restaurant offers a wide array of fine Japanese fusion cuisine, ranging from traditional Sashimi Lunch, California Roll to new style entrees such as Tempura Udon, Color Dragon and Butterfly Roll.

Previously the place was Ippin, a sushi and noodle bar that lasted about six months here in 2013.

    Hopefully it is not the same owners as Milosun, that place had terrible food and catered to a d-bag (minimal) crowd.

    Milosun was overall pretty average (and I was surprised it stayed open as long as it did given how empty it usually was), but holy moly, they could fry tofu. The best fried tofu I've ever tasted. Hopefully the chef/cook in charge of frying caught on somewhere else, because he/she was an artist.

    How does a restaurant like Milosun cater to a "d-bag...crowd?" What did they do? Be specific.

    I don't know how Anonymous @ 8:25 AM would even know how the customers were "d-bags," but I can attest to that Milosun was empty most of the time, even during prime times like Fri and Sat night. I wonder how much rent was a month.

    The $13 AYCE Grand Opening lunch promo is hot, and the $28 dinner promo is pretty good. But when it's over, I don't know how they're going to stay open when their dinner AYCE dinner is going to be $48, when you can get sushi around the area for less than that(though not AYCE). Maybe only if they're upping their quality game.

    Wow, after searching online, I found out that after Youngs Fish Market from 1982-2006?, it's been a string of mostly Japanese restaurants that all failed (not a good sign):

    • Ramen Setagaya in 2007
    • Izakaya Oni in 2008
    • Bibim-Bar from 2009-2012
    • Ippin in 2013
    • Milosun Sushi from 2014-2015

    Might have made a small mistake. Looking at the old Yelp reviews, it looks like Izakaya Oni and Bibim-Bar were inside Ramen Setagaya, in the back. Seems like a weird setup. So maybe Ramen Setagaya was there from 2007-2012?
