[Updated] Mikey Likes It turns 1 today

The ice cream shop at 199 Avenue A between East 12th Street and East 13th Street was closed yesterday to prepare for today's 1-year anniversary celebration.

Proprietor Michael "Mikey" Cole started the business from his parent's StuyTown apartment, where he grew up.

"We'd be at my house for hours filling up the freezer with ice cream until my mom was like, 'You gotta get that shit out of here.'"

You can read our two-part interview with Cole here and here.

  2. If you really care about the EV and the people who live here, please come out and support Mikey. A real local who cared about our collective of vegans, bros, hippies, weirdos etc. to open a business to share his love to all.

  4. Congratulations to Mr. Mikey on the success of his business! I was bummed to see he was closed when I went on Sunday (Note: I did take a photo of Tupac on the roll-down gate...my 9 Instagram followers can be so demanding!) but glad the shop will be open soon for the celebration.

  8. I've recently gone on a non dairy and sugar diet, but would consider trying this place just to support him. Sounds like a cool venue and a cool dude.
