Reader mailbag: What is the story with these pink flags in East River Park?

Via the EVG inbox…

I'm seeing these pink flags all over East River Park. Near the running track and the baseball field. I'm wondering if you have any information on what they are and if it's safe to walk your dog through here?

No one is answering the number on the flags at the moment…

They appear legit. And they show up as a city contract vendor for some various nyc.gov reports.

What they're doing right now over there .. well, that's always harder to find through the City...

  2. It's totally safe to walk your dog through there - provided neither you nor your dog picks up a shovel and starts digging into the ground and pulling up wires. Oh but Schnukums likes to dig in the ground? Provided he doesn't go too deep he'll be fine.

  3. That means that they will be digging in the park, and they want to locate any and all buried utilities before they start, so they don't damage them.

  4. Is it safe for me to walk my ostrich here?

  5. Yes, but only walking - there is NO ostrich riding in the parks. That was banned back in 1907.
